Shoe Trends – Spring/Summer 10

Whilst some of us just like what we like, some of the dedicated fashionista prefer to let their shoes choices be guided by what’s on trend.
Booties/ Ankle Boots
The first name, which comes to mind when you talk about shoe trends for 2010, is booties. The amalgamation of shoe and boots, the booties are haute this year. Booties are not only comfortable but also look chic and stylish. Moreover, they are available in different versions ranging from fancy, retro, trendy, and sleek. They would go with anything you wear, be it skirt, pants, jeans to dresses and would up the style quotient by high measures. You could go for suede booties, booties with bows, with open toes, strapped booties, with platform, with ties, cutout booties, ruffled ones, velvet lace ups, cage booties, and even with feathers and glitters.

Oxfords & Brogues
Oxfords have been around for a few seasons now, but now there are new spins on the casual, smart street shoe. There are Oxford Ballerina flats, which are basically ballet flats with Oxford style laces. Fabric Oxfords are another casual flat option. It’s the season’s take on the sneaker.
Laced boots that reach the tip of the ankle are another great spring shoe that have an androgynous energy to them, especially the styles with cut outs and lace.

Fringed Footwear
If you are the one who digs bohemian style, here is good news for you. The 70’s look of fringes is back and that too with a bang. In all the fashion weeks of autumn/winter and spring/summer, fringed footwear has offered their attendance. Be it pumps, booties, boots, everything is flaunting fringed look. The best colors for fringed footwear would be olive green, brown, black, petrol green, russet, auburn, cocoa etc. the best buy would be from Marc by Marc Jacobs, Mineetonka etc.

Wedges
Wedges are back, and they’re going to go perfectly with this season’s headscarves and turbans! Go for a neutral colored medium height shoe without a platform sole. Peep holes are also a popular look for wedges and add a feminine feel. Although, discern if the wedge has too many bells and whistles, and how it will fit in with spring wardrobes. To avoid overstyling, a good editing eye is necessary! With lots of legs this season, women are going to need a shoe that helps shape the legs and butt while still being walkable. This is the shoe! They’re easy to move around in, or even run around in for that matter, and the echo the vintage pinup feel of hot pants and statement hair accessories.
Flats Have Never Been Saucier

Lolita-inspired flats are the perfect medicine of sweetness for sexy spring pieces like tap pants and boy shorts. These vintage-style skimmers add a bit of innocence to an otherwise femme fetale look. Think about what Shirley Temple wore with her little shorts and skirts, and aim for that.

Kitten heels are another great alternative for sexy but not over the top. They’re great for creating a bit of height but preventing the outfit to become too OTT.
Clogs
These wooden (or wooden look) shoes have inspired the looks of designers Chanel and Louis Vuitton. The look? A backless clog with a wooden platform and a chunky wood heel. Alexander Wang also made a black, chunky-heeled, backless clog, which at the very least seems more wearable with edgy punk trends like leather, chains and side-slitted leggings.
If hoping to attempt this look, firstly, good luck! Second, go for an earthy look. These shoes are very loud,, so keep your outfit neutral.
Cuffs
The look of shoes that cuff around the ankle are the perfect look for summertime. Pair them with skirts, shorts, or dresses for the perfect care free look. The cuff trend as a whole is very boho chic, and they’re likely to be everywhere this season.

Still hot from last season:
Gladiators – glammed up versions
Platforms – they seem to just keep getting higher!

Try it if you dare:
Socks & Shoes – lots of it around on the catwalk, hard to pull off in real life!
